Beatriz Mejia Mercado

Beatriz Mejia-Mercado is a graduate student from Palmira, Colombia. She got her B.S. in Marine Biology at the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University. Later, she received a scholarship from the Mexican government to obtain her M.S. in Marine Ecology at The Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education at Ensenada, Baja California. In 2016, she was awarded the Colciencias-Fulbright scholarship to continue her graduate studies, which is why she joined Florida State University to work on her Ph.D. in Oceanography. Pursuing her interest in deep-sea environments, she is conducting research in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands with the purpose of understanding the community structure of the deep-sea fishes from 200 to 700 meters deep and determining the influence of environmental factors on these communities.
