Jacob Caldwell
Dr. Jacob Caldwell is from Michigan and is currently a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences in the College of Human Sciences at FSU. He graduated in 2018 with his Ph.D. in Kinesiology. To date Jacob’s research efforts have resulted in two major contributions: 1) improvement in the ability of the vasculature to regulate blood flow and lower oxygen consumption in hypertensive post-menopausal women; 2) refining our understanding about circulating factors that regulate cardiac growth during aerobic exercise training. He is currently working under Dr. Michael Delp investigating the long-term effect of deep space radiation and weightlessness on venous endothelial function. Jacob was recently awarded the National Institutes of Health, Loan Repayment Program grant for $35,000 based on work with Dr. Judy Muller-Delp in peripheral artery disease patients. His long-term career goals are to earn grant funding and transition to an assistant professor position at a major university where he will continue his line of research and teach undergraduate and graduate students. Jacob’s interest, beyond research, range from outdoor hiking with his fiancé to coaching Olympic weightlifting athletes. His motivation for continuing on a research career is largely based on helping people by bridging the gap between health and disease with exercise training. Dr. John Hunter is a historic figure that has inspired Jacob’s work due to his relentless quest of understanding the unknown.
