Estee Hernández is from Brownsville, Texas. She is a first-generation U.S. citizen and is the first in her family to graduate from high school. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in Higher Education, and she has earned both her B.A. in French and M.S.Ed. in Higher Education & Student Affairs from Baylor University.
Estee currently serves as a Research Assistant for Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, under the mentorship of Dr. Tamara Bertrand Jones. She also is a Teaching Assistant for graduate-level social justice courses in the Higher Education program and has taught Leadership for Social Justice in the Undergraduate Certificate in Leadership Studies program for four years. Prior to her service as an RA, Estee was a Program Coordinator, focusing on scholarships and recognition programs, at the Center for Leadership & Social Change.
Estee’s research and service focuses on faculty and graduate student diversity and inclusion issues. To that end, she serves FSU as a workshop facilitator for NCBI @ FSU, Social Justice Ally Training, and Allies & Safe Zones. Her commitment to scholarship and service has recently been recognized by the NASPA Dr. Susan R. Komives Research Award and as an alternate for the Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellowship award, among others.
