The Graduate School & CIES

The Graduate School supports graduate students in every program at Florida State University. They provide assistance in academic matters, advice on University-wide degree requirements, information on the availability of financial assistance including assistantships, fellowships and scholarships, as well as approval for theses and dissertations.

The Center for Intensive English Studies, the Office of Graduate Fellowships and Awards, the Program for Instructional Excellence, the Fellows Society, and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs are all housed under the Graduate School.

Center for Intensive English Studies (CIES)

Since 1980, The Center of Intensive English Studies’ (CIES) expert teachers have prepared thousands of students to succeed in full-time study at English-speaking universities, advance in careers that require English fluency, or simply increase and polish their English language proficiency.

CIES is a small school. No more than 150 students are enrolled every session so that teachers can work personally with each one. Because we are small, you will be able to make friends easily with students from all over the world. You will become part of the family at CIES.

CIES is part of a major American university (Florida State is ranked as one of the USA’s “Top 100 research universities”), and we are located in the capital city of Florida – Tallahassee. The mild climate and safe community make it an ideal place to study, learn, and live.

CIES’ Intensive English Program is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) for the period December 2018 through December 2023 and agrees to uphold the CEA Standards for English Language Programs and Institutions.
