Kang Yao

Kang Yao came to the Florida State University in Fall 2012 and graduated with her Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering in Summer 2017. She joined the High-Performance Materials Institute (HPMI) and the Power Science Lab at Aero-propulsion, Mechatronics and Energy (AME) center in Summer 2013. She works on Li-ion batteries for energy storage. In particular, she is trying to develop a high-capacity Si-based anode material as alternative to conventional graphite electrode for Li-ion batteries for potential applications where high energy density is needed, such as electric vehicles for next-generation sustainable transportation. Her other research interests include supercapacitors, polymer composite material for fuel cells, and materials processing and characterization. She also holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Applied Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB).
