Lisa Fitton completed her doctoral studies in the Communication Science & Disorders program at Florida State in the spring of 2018. During her studies, she had the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in the Department of Psychology, which led to her dissertation work focusing on understanding the language development of Spanish-English speaking children. She completed a Predoctoral Interdisciplinary Research Training fellowship through the Institute of Education Science and the Florida Center for Reading Research in the fall of 2016. Her later studies were funded through an Office of Special Education Programs traineeship and dissertation scholarships awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation and the Council on Academic Programs in Communication Science and Disorders. Lisa was originally born in South Haven, Michigan and recently accepted a position as a postdoctoral research scholar at the Florida Center for Reading Research. She plans to continue her work focusing on bilingual language development with a specific interest in language and literacy assessment.
