Motivation to pursue a graduate degree

I am motivated to pursue a graduate degree in education policy and evaluation to advance my career and increase knowledge in a specified area to provide expert advice when necessary

Importance and impact of research

The only way to eliminate the barriers that impede the successes of students from marginalized communities is to confront oppressive policies and practices that restrict student access to quality instruction and meaning experiences. Thus, it is important to give voice to their lived experiences while creating spaces in which they can leverage their education as a vehicle for upward mobility.

Career aspirations

As an education policy analyst, I aspire to conduct research and advocacy work crucial for the pursuit of social equity within the public education system.

Accomplishments during graduate career

For the past four years, I have operated the Freedom School program (six-week literacy camp) at FAMU DRS, which enables aspiring teachers to gain culturally relevant teaching experiences. In November, I will participate in the university panel at the Educational Strategies and Student Engagement Institute (ESSEI). I am a 2020 McKnight Doctoral Fellow.
