Ashley Lindeman

Ashley Lindeman is a doctoral student in the Department of Art History in the College of Fine Arts at FSU who studies modern European art with an emphasis on Italian muralism in the interwar and immediate postwar era (1920-1955). Her research interests include Italian Futurism, nineteenth and twentieth century decorative art, and large-scale propaganda. She is currently developing her dissertation on the mural practice of Italian artist Gino Severini.

Ashley graduated with her BFA in art history and visual communications at the University of Kansas in 2012. She completed her MA at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, writing her thesis on Futurist murals in Palermo and their political function in 1933. As a PhD student, she teaches courses as a Patricia Rose Doctoral Fellow, and she has spent the summers of 2017 and 2018 teaching art history courses in Florence, Italy for Florida State University International Programs. From the FSU Department of Art History, Ashley received the Helen Helen J. Beard Conference Travel Grant to present her research on Futurist murals in La Spezia at the American Association of Italian Studies (AAIS) in April 2017. She is also a recipient of the Friends of Art History Research Award (Summer 2018) to conduct dissertation research in Rome and Milan.
